Required Training
Families adopting from Hague countries are required by The Hague Convention to complete 10 hours of adoption related training. AdoptTLC believes pre-adoptive training to be paramount in the adoption journey, and therefore requires all adoptive families adopting from Hague and non-Hague countries to complete one of the below training options.
OPTION ONE:
Register and complete all of the adoption courses at www.adopteducation.com. The cost is $125 and you will receive a certificate of training for these courses.
These courses are very thorough and cover several important topics on international adoption. The completion of these courses will satisfy the 10-hour training requirement.
OPTION TWO:
Read TWO of the following books and complete a short report/critique:
- The Connected Child by Dr. Karyn Purvis
- The Strong-Willed Child by Dr. James Dobson
- Adoption Parenting: Creating a Toolbox, Building Connections by Jean MacLeod
- Attaching in Adoption: Practical Tools for Today’s Parents by Deborah Gray
Each book will meet 3 hours of required training (6 hours total for the two books)
AND
Complete the training course “With Eyes Wide Open”, which meets four hours of required training. This course can be completed online for $45 at www.adoptionlearningpartners.org
OPTION THREE:
Register and complete the online continuing education courses “The Journey of Attachment” and “Finding the Missing Pieces: Helping Adopted Children Cope with Loss and Grief” at www.adoptionlearningpartners.org. The cost of each course is $35 and you will need to provide a certificate of completion for both courses. Each course meets three hours of required training.
AND
Complete the training course “With Eyes Wide Open”, which meets four hours of required training. This course can be completed online for $45 at www.adoptionlearningpartners.org
